Kaufman imitation. Chasidic Jew.
Late 19th Century. Magnificent painting of a Chasidic Jew in his Sabbath finery, adorned with a Shtreimel and cloaked in a Tallis with a Golden Atorah. This painting captures the dignity and nobility of the Jewish people and is a fine example of the gentle tenderness which Kaufman sought to portray.
Oil on canvas. 11 by 15.5 inches. Signed J. Helber, presumably a student of Kaufman. Fine condition. Antique style frame.
