A series of letters replying to interesting notes on Rabbi Eisenstein’s works raised by the scholar R. Yaakov Gordon of England.
Rabbi Yehuda David Eisenstein (1855-1956), born in Mezhritch and settled in America with his parents in 1872. Rabbi Eisenstein was very much involved in orthodox Jewish communal affairs in America, including the establishment of the Union of Orthodox Congregations under Chief Rabbi Yaakov Joseph. Served as Head of Kollel America (1897). Published the Hebrew Encyclopedia Otzar Yisrael, Otzar Dinim u’Minhagim and a number of other works, and was a frequent contributor to contemporary Hebrew journals.
