L'opera nasce da un prototipo romano andato perduto, precedente al 1611, arrivato a noi tramite l'incisione di Jan Leclerc. Esisteva una variante prodotta dal pittore Abraham Bloemaert, come ci riporta l'incisone di suo figlio Cornelis.

The artwork comes from a lost roman prototype, before 1611, which came us through the engraving by Jan Leclerc. There was a variant produced by the painter Abraham Bloemaert, as reported by the engraving by his son Cornelis.
