A VERY FINE TSAVORITE GARNET AND DIAMOND RING
Set with a marquise-cut tsavorite garnet weighing 12.26 carats, surrounded by alternating pear- shaped and marquise-cut diamonds and tsavorite garnets, to the diamond-set half-hoop and openwork gallery, mounted in 18K white gold, ring size 5½
Accompanied by a report from the Gemresearch Swisslab, stating that the 12.26 carat Tsavorite garnet is vivid green color, originates from East-Africa and has no indication of thermal treatment, report no. GRS2013-011064, dated 2nd January 2013
In 1967, British geologist Dr. Campbell R. Bridges discovered the beautiful gemstone in the mountains in northeast Tanzania. It was illegal then to export the stones from Tanzania. In 1971, he discovered the brilliant green gemstone for the second time, in Kenya, where mining of such was eventually permitted. The name 'Tsavorite' was proposed by the former president of Tiffany & Co. Henry Platt, in honor of the Tsavo National Park and the Tsavo River along the East African bushland.
