A LARGE VIETNAMESE BLUE & WHITE PORCELAIN DISH, 15TH CENTURY WITH BOOK. Heavily-potted, decorated in underglaze cobalt blue with a central blossom surrounded by floral patterns. The outer wall is decorated with lotus leaf patterns with clear glaze finely-crackled in places. The recessed base is coated in a yellowish-brown wash. Dish 34.2cm diam. This dish was part of the cargo of a 15th century shipwreck discovered in the 1990s. Together with a fascinating book, 'Dragon Sea' by Frank Pope who was the archaeological manager of the salvage operation. It is in fine condition, has no restoration or repair, and a good ring when tapped.
