Leilão Bidspirit | A CHINESE STONEWARE DRAGON JAR,

A CHINESE STONEWARE DRAGON JAR, SONG DYNASTY (AD 960 - 1279). Heavily potted with applied decoration around its shoulder featuring a dragon chasing a pearl; the dragon, of course, is seen as a divine mystical creature and the pearl a symbol of strength, fortune and transformation. It is coated in a thick dark iron-brown glaze, that falls short of the base of the jar, on top of a pale slip. Note the ridge to the lower body that has prevented the glaze from running. Height 19 cm (7.5 inches).
