A CHINESE PAINTED POTTERY HORSE AND FEMALE RIDER, TANG DYNASTY (AD 618- 907). The horse standing foursquare with the rider seated astride, with a black painted top knot, wearing a pale blue glazed clothes and black boots, the horse with black bridle, on a rectangular base. 25.5cm long x 35cm high. Provenance: Property of a Lancashire family. With small remnants of original red paint to her face, the horse's face and ears and black paint to her hair, the mane, the horse's bridle and her boots. Her dress retains some pale blue pigment. Some typical surface flaking and wear overall. No obvious signs of restoration under UV light.
