A CHINESE PAINTED POTTERY HORSE AND RIDER, HAN DYNASTY (206 BC-AD 220). The horse modelled standing foursquare with a rider seated astride, his clothes painted with a dot pattern, the saddle enriched in red, white and black paint, on a rectangular base. 31.5cm high x 31cm long. Provenance: Property of a Lancashire family. Original remnants of paint to rider, his dress, and saddle cloth. Cracked through rider's left boot, rider lacking implement in hands (presumably the reins), the horse's front right leg cracked above ankle and presumably restuck, some typical flaking and surface wear to pottery overall typical for age and type.
