First edition. Kabbalah. Chessed LeAvraham by Rabbi Avraham Azulai. Amsterdam, 1685.
One of the most important and famed Kabbalistic books by the Mekubal Rabbi Avraham Azulai. Leading Mekubalim of following generations studied his words and they are frequently introduced in Chassidic and Mussar books.
First edition by Emanuel Atias. Varied Kabbalistic illustrations.
The Gaon the Mekubal Rabbi Avraham Azulai, one of the sages of Fes, Morocco. Immigrated to Eretz Yisrael and was one of the leading rabbis of Hebron. The Gaon the Chida was one of his descendants. Two editions of this book was printed in the same year, 1685, one in Amsterdam and the other in Sulzbach.
His grandson, Rabbeinu the Chida complains in Shem Hagdolim about this edition:
"והענין הוא כי ס' זה הועתק כמה פעמים בכמה עיירות מוסופרים שונים עד שמרוב ההעתקות בסופרים בורים ופוחזים החליפו שינו השמיטו השחיתו התעיבו. ועד אחרן בא לידי הה"ר אברהם ברך מגוריציא והדפיסו כמות שהוא והנה עלה כלו קמשונים כסו פניו חרולי הטעיות. וכבר שאלו לי איזה לשון בדפוס שאינו מובן ובזה של כתיבת יד הכל מתוקן".
