The San Marino Grand Prix is a race car manufacturer in Formula 1 that took place from 1981 to 2006 on the circuit of Imola , in the province of Bologna . The race was founded by the will of Enzo Ferrari and FAMS (Auto Motoring Federation San Marino) who worked on this idea since 1974 ; in previous years the Imola circuit had already hosted races Formula 1 ; in 1979 it was raced in the Grand Prix, Ferrari Dino , not valid for the world championship, while in 1980 Imola hosted the Italian Grand Prix , only for that year moved from the track of Monza . Thanks to the continuous involvement of Enzo Ferrari and FAMS, after signing the Concorde Agreement the race was held in the calendar the following years; The first edition of the Grand Prix was won by Nelson Piquet at Brabham , the last from Michael Schumacher of Ferrari ; German is also the most successful winner of this race pilot, with 7 successes won between 1994 and 2006 .
