A rare rescue cry - about the desecration of graves in the Holy Land - with the signature of Rabbi Moshe Aryeh Freund

Rabbi Moshe Aryeh Freund was born in 1904, son of Rabbi Yisrael the av Beit Din of Honiad. As a young avrech before the Shoah he served as rabbi in the town of Nasvid, Ragna, and then he moved to Satmar, where he served as dayan and rosh yeshiva in the rabbinate led by Rabbi Yoel of Satmar, when he began to become close to Rav Yoel.

After the war he became famous for his strength releasing agunot and many came to him to receive permission to marry. A number of years after the war he moved to Israel and settled in Jerusalem, where many Satmar chassidim followed him and accepted him as their leader.

The Satmar Rebbe appointed him head of the Satmar yeshiva, which he led for around 40 years and certified thousands of students. In 1987 he was appointed Ga’avad of the Eida Charedit, where he served until his death in 1996.
