Socialist realism icon. One of the brightest masters of the second half of the 20th century. The author's style was formed under the strong influence of the Russian avant-garde. He combined precise drawing and tone modeling with a free painting style, turning into expressionism. People's Artist of the USSR. Academician of the Academy of Arts. Pupil of I. Brodsky and A. Osmyorkin. Supervised the workshop at the Academic Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture named after Repin, brought up several generations of artists.
