The Morning of Saturday, August 3rd, we will bid farewell to a unique legacy collection of American toys and banks: The Haradin Family Collection. A magnificent and richly historical archive, it spans multiple generations of a family whose roots are deeply embedded in two communities: their native Pittsburgh and the borderless realm of antique toy and bank collecting. This auction hits especially close to home for us because the Pittsburgh clan that built the collection includes our lifelong friend and colleague Ray Haradin, the "R" of RSL Auction Company. The Afternoon of Saturday, August 3rd we will be selling the world class paper lithography collection of Carl & Linda Thomas of Bluefield, WV. Included are many fantastic skittle and knockdown sets, about 15 sets of paper litho trains and about 15 to 20 paper litho horse drawn toys. Also included in this sale is a selection of still banks, penny toys, and the Kobe Toy Collection of Ron & Sandy Rosen.

Scarce Blue Candy Drawers. Made by the Kyser & Rex Company. Frankford, Pennsylvania - Mid 1880's. Kyser & Rex created some of the most exquisite toy banks in the 19th century. Their designs exhibit a penchant for composition and narrative that really has no equal among the other toy bank manufacturers. They fashioned miniature environments that feel so perfectly realized that they become timeless. Even today, the viewer is able to nostalgically imagine what it must have felt like to visit the local confectionery shop and buy some penny candies. To operate the bank, place a coin upright in the slot found in the counter in front of the shop girl. Firmly pushing the lever in causes her to turn to the left. At the same time, the drawer marked "Lozenge" opens and sweeps a thin circular candy on to her tray. Release the button, and she turns forward again, offering you the sweet confection. The Confectionery Bank is the only instance in which we find a toy bank that tangibly rewards its operator for saving pennies. The Haradin Confectionery Bank is very exceptional quality for this rare bank.
