Philippines Snake Consuming Figure Staff
Carved from a single piece of sturdy wood, with incised serpent skin detail from base to mouth of the snake, slowly devouring a seated figure. The contemplative figure appears unknowing as the snake consumes him from the bottom up. Figure wears an elaborate twirled headdress.

In some indigenous belief systems, snakes are considered gods or powerful beings. The Agta people, for example, have a deity known as "Dalagan, " who is depicted as a serpent and is believed to inhabit rivers and mountains. Size 60" H
Condition: Overall good condition with a stable crack at snakes mouth and on figure.
