BUTENANDT ADOLF: (1903-1995) German Biochemist. Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1939 for his works on sex hormones. A good T.L.S., `Adolf Butenandt´, one page, 4to, Munich 29th April 1976, on his personal printed stationery, to Ben. B. Braude, in German. Butenandt thanks is correspondent for his letter dated 10th of March, and states in part `Unfortunately, only a few of my works have been translated into English. I am enclosing a small American historical publication from 1974 and I am pleased that you will be able to find a summary of my work in a commemorative publication of 1963..´, further adding `I never gave a Nobel Lecture. I received the prize in 1939 but all events were cancelled during the war and the National Socialist regime forbade me to accept the prize, which was only officially awarded to me after the war.´ Accompanied by the original Max-Planck-Institut for Biochemie printed stationery postmarked envelope.
