Letter dated 1851 and signed by Rabbi Moshe Chaslawitsh and R. Nissan Bak, expressing thanks for a donation received from Sir Moses towards the Bikur Cholim and Hachnasas Kalla funds of the Perushim community in Yerushalayim.
Rabbi Moshe Chaslawitsh (Cheshin), emigrated to Eretz Yisrael with the disciples of the Vilna Gaon in 1809. Settled in Tzefas, and then in Yerushalayim, where he was among the founders and early residents of the Even Yisrael and Beis Yaakov neighbourhoods. Protected Jews from Arab attacks through his wise intervention on their behalf.
R. Nissan Bak, son of the famous printer R. Yisrael Bak. Representative of the Rebbes of Ruzhin and Sadagura in Eretz Yisrael, heading the construction of the Tiferes Yisrael Synagogue in Yerushalayim on their behalf. Leading Yerushalayim communal activist.
Sir Moses and Lady Judith Montefiore, great British philanthropists who devoted their lives to improving the lives of Jews around the world through their generosity and political intervention.
