A FOUR-PANELS SCREEN WITH HAWKS
Japan, 19th century
The screen depicting on each of the four panels a composition with a hawk placed on a pole, painted in ink and colors on paper, in the upper area an inscription in cursive style with seals, the scenes enclosed by a frame in silver leaves and silk.
173 x 256 cm
Provenance: Italian private collection.
The theme of the falcon is in the repertoire of Japanese artists since the Kamakura period (1185-1333), especially favored by members of the samurai class who aspired to develop some of this raptor's skills, such as speed of action and decisiveness in attack.
