COOPER GARY: (1901-1961) American actor, Academy Award winner. A good vintage black ink signature ('Gary Cooper') and self-caricature (?) by Cooper to the centre of a 4to page removed from an album. Immediately beneath his signature the actor has drawn a simple, although appealing, ink sketch of a cowboy wearing a ten-gallon hat and smoking a cigarette from which smoke rings can be seen ascending, the image reminiscent of Cooper's strong, silent style of acting and, perhaps, his role as Marshal Will Kane in the film High Noon (1952) for which he won a Best Actor Oscar. Dated 23rd September 1960 in another hand. The page also bears four other signatures to the recto and verso including that of Pierre Mondy (1925-2012) French actor and director. VG Provenance: The present page originates from the restaurant visitor's book of Jean Cassini, a renowned French restaurateur in Avignon, both at the Hotel d'Europe and his own establishment, Restaurant Cassini. The visitor's book was in use from 1957-82.
