BOSCO JOHN: (1815-1888) Don Bosco. Italian Roman Catholic Priest, Educator and Writer. He developed teaching methods based on love rather than punishment, a method known as the Salesian Preventive System. Founder of the Salesians of Don Bosco. Canonized as a saint in 1934. Rare A.L.S., ` Sac.[erdote] Gio.[vanni] Bosco´, one page, 8vo, Rome, 27th February 1873, to `Buona Mamma´ [Countess Callori], in Italian. Bosco writes to his correspondent `Mia Buona Mamma´ (“My good Mum”), and referring to the Pope states `Vengo in questo momento dal Santo Padre e l´ho trovato in ottimo stato´ (“I come right now from being with the Holy Father and I found him in excellent health condition”), further saying `Egli mi da speciale e nominale incarico di comunicare a lei e a tutta la sua famiglia la apostolica sua bendizione. Le scrivero altro quanto prima. Dio le concede…´ (“He gives me a special and nominal petition to communicate his apostolic blessing to you and to all your family. I'll write you more as soon as possible. God bless you..”) With blank integral leaf. VG
Countess Carlotta Callori di Vignale (1827-1911) one of the most important financial benefactors of Bosco´s projects. Bosco considered Countess Callori as his second-mother.
