KRAY REG: (1933-2000) English criminal, twin brother of Ron Kray, together the foremost perpetrators of organised crime in the East End of London during the 1950s and 1960s. A.L.S., Reg Kray (also signed in the address at the head of the first page), four pages, 4to, HM Prison Gartree, Leicestershire, 26th July (1988), to James. Kray writes in his familiar scrawling (and at times illegible) hand, stating that he received his correspondent's letter, mentioning that his brother did not receive a visit ('Ron is not going to be pleased'), referring to some cuttings, his correspondent's work, getting paid, an intriguing situation, promising a quote 'of our book due out soon' as well as the telephone number of the writer 'so as you can be one of the first in the field…..to give you a break, but do not abuse this favour', adding 'the quote is that 2 friends of mine who read the manuscript both said it is the best they have ever read. One is a reader of a book a day for 40 years, the other for 20 years, so this is a credit to Fred Dinenage, Ron and I. Fred wrote Our Story!!! This is his phone number but you are not to repeat this quote…..He is a reasonable person…..You can quote that the Godfather Group will be…..some of our cynics!!!.....It's his home number so do not give it to any one else. He will give you all the information he feels fit', also referring to some music lyrics that he has written which have been received enthusiastically by people in the music business ('well known pop groups of international status and solo singers are interested in our joint lyrics') and referring to a school for 'handicapped' children and several mutual acquaintances. Slightly irregularly torn to the left side of each page, not affecting the text or signature, otherwise VG
