The letter bears an embossed crowned monogramme to the upper left corner. An unusually cleanly written letter by Dumas, once again referring to money and debts, and stating `…d´où vient que vous n´avez pas pu remettrea Mme Michel, les cinq mille francs en question. Pouvez-vous remettre les 5,500 fr a Alexandre, vous savez que cette Somme paie juste ma dette a l´hotel. Hyppolite n´a t-il pas pu aller jusqu´a 8000..´ (“…how is it that you were unable to remit to Madame Michel the five thousand francs. Can you give the 5,500 fr to Alexandre, you know that this sum just pays my debt to the hotel. Hyppolite could not go up to 8000...”) With blank integral leaf. Small overall age wear, mostly to edges. G to VG
Jean Baptiste Porcher (1792-1864) and his wife were French Theatrical Agents who used to purchase copyrights and ticket passes for their authors, later reselling them at the entrance doors of theatres. He very often advanced money to Dumas and other artists, sometimes keeping some manuscripts in pledge.
