Was suspected of anti-Soviet activity and sent to a work camp in Siberia, where he remained until the end of World War II.

Returning to Vilna after the war he was deeply shocked by the destruction of the Vilna Jewish community.

Immigrated to Israel in 1958.

From 1960 lived and worked in Safed.

He dedicated his life to commemorating Jewish life in Vilna and the Jewish shtetl, also depicted in his work the people and landscapes of Safed and Israel.
