CARGALEIRO, MANUEL CARGALEIRO 1966 - ORIGINAL - CARGALEIRO, Manuel Cargaleiro 1966 ”Moi Je A'Attends” Oil on canvas Signed and dated 1966 Dim. approx.: 60 x 80 cm.; Dim. approx total: 85 x 110 cm. Framed. During the 1960s, Manuel Cargaleiro saw his pieces exhibited in European countries such as Switzerland and Italy, but also in Brazil and Japan, placing him on the international artistic scene. Despite these trips and trips to Portugal, it was in Paris that Mestre Cargaleiro lived and produced with greater intensity. Between 1960 and 1965, his paintings and the ceramics he produced in Gien reflect his proximity to French expressionism and his friendship with the Russian couple, Gontcharova and Larionov, precursors of Rayonism. Thick brushstrokes, expressive stains and the play of light rays and vibrant color lines are characteristics of these pieces. Between 1965 and 1969, biomorphic structures were developed in the artist's paintings. These irregular and curvilinear shapes are simplified representations of natural elements such as pebbles and plants. In the works from 1969, compositions filled with simple geometric shapes that the artist developed in the 70s appear.
