The author (1596-1675), born in Lisbon, Jesuit and chronicler of the order, was a professor in the colleges of Évora, Coimbra, Braga and Lisbon (Sto. Antão College), of which he was rector. Work divided into two parts or tomes: "Primeira parte na qval se contem os principios d’esta Provincia, no tempo, em que a fundou, & gouernou o P. M. Simam Rodrigves, com sua sancta vida, & morte" ([24 (aliás 20)], 709 p.: 1 gravura); "Segvnda parte, na qval se contem as vidas de alguns Religiosos mais assinalados, que na mesma Provincia entràram nos annos em que viveo S. Ignacio de Loyola, nosso fvndador..." ([16], 904 p.: 1 gravura). First volume with two preliminary leaves missing (¶ 3 and ¶ 4) and four loose leaves (A1, G3, G4 and G5), possibly from another copy. Each of the volumes retains an allegorical engraving (identical), representing the company of Jesus, open in copper according to the original of Grégoire Huret (E. Soares, 1202). Stamps of the Quinta das Lágrimas on both pages of the title page and on pages 17 of each of the tomes. Full sheepskin binding of the time, somewhat tired. Inocêncio, I, p. 328. Samodães, 3337.
