Born near Barcelona in 1930, José Escofet spent much of his early career working as a graphic designer while painting during his free time. Influenced by Spanish and Dutch still-lives and flower painting from the earlier centu- ries, the artist realized highly detailed and impressively refined, sophisticated flower subjects.
