Mukhina Vera Ignatievna (1889-1953)
Sculptor-monumentalist, teacher. People's Artist of the USSR. Laureate of five Stalin Prizes. Since 1904 she studied painting in Moscow in the workshops of K.F. Yuona, I.O. Dudin, I.I. Mashkov. In 1912 she left for Paris for two years, where she studied under the sculptor-monumentalist E.A. Bourdelle at the Grand Chaumiere Academy. In 1914 she traveled to Italy, studied sculpture and painting of the Renaissance. In 1937 her monument "Worker and Kolkhoz Woman" was installed at the 1937 World Exhibition in Paris, crowning the Soviet pavilion of the architect B. M. Iofan. For this sculpture Vera Mukhina was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor. In 1939, the sculpture was installed at the northern entrance to the Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy (VDNKh). Also known as a graphic artist.
