Reshetnikov Boris Andreevich (1921-2009)

Soviet graphic artist, famous poster artist. Member of the Union of Artists of the USSR and the Union of Journalists of the USSR. Was born in 1921. Studied at the Saratov Art School (1946-1948). In 1954 he graduated from the State Academy of Arts of the Latvian SSR named after Teodor Zalkaln in Riga (teacher - P.K.Lyubomudrov). Taught at the Latvian Academy of Arts (1954-1956). From 1954 he worked at Izogiz publishing house. During the period of cooperation with the publishing house, he has made, approved by the artistic council and put into circulation more than fifty posters. He performed social and political posters, created a series of posters on the theme of pioneer and school. Reshetnikov's first posters differed little in formal terms from the works of other authors, but by the end of the 50s, the artist's detailed, "pictorial" manner had undergone a change, became laconic and expressive. Boris Reshetnikov gave up painting and complex colors, the contours of locally painted figures and objects began to be effectively emphasized with delicate strokes. His works acquire integrity and monumentality. Major works: "Under the banner of Leninism, under the leadership of the Communist Party, forward to the triumph of communism!" (1953), "Strengthen the international solidarity of workers!", "Dare, seek, create!" (1955), "Let's Achieve High and Sustainable Yields!" (1955), "To our construction site, friends!" (1956), "Automation in all branches of industry!" (1956), "Peace, Friendship" (1956), "Not a Drop!" (1961), "The Nations Say No!" (1962), "All year round - to cities and industrial centers!" (1963), "The armor is reliable and the engines are strong, the tankers are on guard for the Soviet country!" (1963), "Glory to the Soviet Aviators!" (1973), "Don't Lose!" (1975), "Apply your skill and diligence, prepare for the wintering of cattle in advance!" (1982), "Come on!" (1983). He made posters in collaboration with Alexander Dobrov - "Let's study the experience of the foremost workers and the achievements of science, we will achieve high yields!" (1955), "Electrifying Roads!" (1957), "The Soviet man is great, his deeds are daring!" (1962). Permanent participant in all-Union, republican and foreign exhibitions of Soviet posters. BA Reshetnikov's works are in many Russian museums and private collections.
