Magnificent ivory and coral sculpted group. 18th century. - “The dormition of the Virgin Mary” Cased in a cupola with three different heights, made of carved and polychromed wood, the first two held up by four sets of fine spiralled ivory columns between them, and the last by a garland of vegetation elements topped with cherubim. At the top is the Virgin Mary’s anagram. The main scene unfolds at the base. Mary is in her bed, in the centre, surrounded by the twelve apostles. In a carved and gilded presentation urn.
