Leilão Bidspirit | ”Nobleman and Archangel”. Two terracotta
”Nobleman and Archangel”. Two terracotta figures. Colonial. 18th century. - Interesting and curious figures, with a Greek influenced aesthetic in the depiction of the archangel, producing a surprising effect as it unites with Colonial art imagery. It is very appealing, especially the equestrian figure, who is riding an animal somewhere between a boar and a horse, the face is elaborate when compared with the coarser finish on the rest of the sculpture, which suggests that the dedication to the face means that it was a portrait. Nobleman measurements: 32 x 15 x 15 cm. Archangel measurements: 28 x 12 cm.
