Andrea Briosco Il Riccio Circle (1470-1532). Italy, probably from Padua. First third of the 16th century. -   Bronze inkpot depicting a crab and a frog.   In renaissance Padua it was frequent to smelt bronze into models or scenes taken directly from animals.   The National Gallery of Art in Washington has a very similar bronze, crab-shaped box in its collection, listed as being from early 16th century Padua.
