Exceptional pair of Mexican “mesas revueltas. Signed by Johanes Josephus Morphill Pinxit 1806. -     Pair of trompe l’oeils. Ink, watercolour and pencil on paper.   This rare pair of “mesas revueltas” is made up of images with typical iconography of Mexican popular culture such as Our Lady of Guadalupe, the Divine Shepherdess, Saint John Nepomuceno and the Game of the Goose, as well as local documents such as one from Mexican customs.  There is a ”mesa revuelta” at the Museum of Talca of a later date than these.   Provenance:  Private collection Aguascalientes, Mexico.  51 x 51 cm. each.
