The controversy between Rabbi Yehonatan Eibeschütz and Rabbi Yaakov Emden was about the fact that Rabbi Yehonatan Eibeschütz was a Kabbalist and distributed amulets.
Rabbi Yaakov Emden suspected him of being part of the Shabtai Tzvi movement. and wrote about this in his book: 'Lies were said about the Rabbi and Gaon Rabbi Yehonatan Eibeschütz ….and justified him in all the actions and laws'.
