An original, classical painting by the French painter and engraver Narcisse Berchére.
The artist has depicted an enchanting street in the Old City of Jerusalem, with a stone archway leading to one of the cities many narrow alleyways. A wonderful, beautifully executed work.
Narcisse Berchére was a French painter and engraver who lived between 1819-1891 and was known for his Oriental paintings. He studies at the Academy of Arts in France, and was a student of Jean-Charles-Joseph Rémond.
In the years 1849-1850, Berchére visited Egypt and the Middle East and prepared a series of paintings, including the one before us.
