'Shtetl'. Győri Elek (1905-1957). Signed.

A compelling and authentic portrayal of the Jewish Street, showing Jewish life in interwar Hungary.

In his fascinating and colorful works, Elek captures the lively atmosphere of Jewish everyday life, and the cycle of the Jewish year.

Győri Elek was born in Hungary, in 1905. After working as a blacksmith for six years, he was discovered by the famous art critic Jenô Bálint, who took him under his wing and encouraged him to become an artist. During his lifetime Elek exhibited many of his works and earned a wonderful reputation. His sudden death in 1957, however, put an end to his flourishing career.

49.3 x 63.5 cm.
