Modern Art: A Pair of Candlesticks by Bezalel Artist Dan Givon. Israel 1984.
In 1980, the Bezalel Academy awarded Dan Givon the Shapira Prize for Design for the original version of these unique and engaging candlesticks. Conceived as mirror visions of one another, the candlesticks are intended to convey a sense of conversation, interacting both with one another and with the viewer.
"My art is an expression of my Jewish identity. When designing Judaic Art, it is essential to understand its spiritual purpose as well as its functional use. I acquire such awareness from all sources and communicate this complex meaning within its form. Each work balances modern designs with tradition and function. Through these pieces, I strive to show today's generation that modern Judaica is art as well as a harmonious part of our modern lifestyles." (Dan Givon)
Dan Givon was born in 1955. He successfully finished his studies at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in 1981, and has since concentrated on the creation of modern, hand-crafted Judaica, which he issues in limited editions. His works have been displayed in numerous exhibitions, and are represented in the finest Judaica collections both in Israel and abroad.
On the underside of each candlestick the artist hand-engraved signature, D. Givon, 36/250. SP [silver plate], and Bezalel.
