Manuscript. Booklet of Recommendations for a Shadar; Endorsed by a Chassidic Talmud Torah of the Old Yishuv of Jerusalem. Signatures of the Admor of Lelov, the Admor of Zhidichov and Others.

“Booklet of the Talmud Torah and Yeshivat Chayei Olam HaKlalit, here, the Holy City of Jerusalem, may it be speedily rebuilt.”

“Please receive the cherished Shadar (Rabbinical Messenger) with open arms, warmly and lovingly.

This booklet dates back to 1908, and accompanied the Shadar, Avraham Menachem Preis on his journeys. This unique booklet was given to him, to assist him on his mission of collecting funds on behalf of Yeshivat Chayei Olam.

Yeshivat Chayei Olam was established in 1886, (10 Tammuz, 5646) in the Old City of Jerusalem. It was founded by a number of Chassidic Rabbis including Rabbi Yitzchak David Biderman, son of Rabbi Moshe of Lelov and nephew of Rabbi David Biderman, the Admor of Lelov, and with the support of Rabbi Yehoshua of Kutno and his son-in-law Rabbi Chaim Elazar Wachs.

The Shadar, Rabbi Avraham Moshe Preis, was born in Hungary in 1849. He emigrated to the Holy Land, where he married his wife, Gittel, of the town of Hebron.

A number of prominent Rabbis signed this request of assistance to the Shadar, including; Rabbi Yisrael Elazar Goldwicht zt”l , a prominent figure of Jerusalem’s Chassidic community; The Admor of Lelov, Rabbi Lipman David (Dubcha) Shovacs; Av Bet Din of Jerusalem, the Gaon Rabbi Shalom Noach Landa; Av Bet Din of the Veretzky Community, Rabbi Chaim Yosef Eichenstein ; the Admor of Zhidichov and many others.

The booklet is mainly penned in Hebrew, although some additional parts are written in German. The German parts are signed by Rabbis Meir Alter and Yisrael Rubin. The booklet even features the official stamp of the American Embassy, verifying the authenticity of the signatures,
