View of the Town, Carlos Lezcano, Spanish school of the 19th - 20th century
Oil on canvas: measurements: 70 x 80 cm. Carlos Lezcano (Madrid, 1871-1929). Spanish painter. He was a disciple of Joaquín Sorolla and became known at the National Exhibition of 1885, in which he received an honorable mention. To the Madrid International Exhibition of 1892 he sent the painting French Village. For twenty years he was away from painting to devote himself to the family business and, in 1921, following the death of his son, he returned to painting, devoting himself to landscape. After several individual exhibitions, he appeared at the Barcelona International Exhibition of 1929 with several works, among them the one entitled Nido de Águilas, which could not be awarded a gold medal, as had been proposed, due to the sudden death of the author. That same year, his daughter organized an exhibition at the Society of Friends of Art and then the State acquired the painting titled Peñaranda de Duero. Bibliography: Carlos Lezcano (1870-1929), cat. exp., Madrid, Spanish Museum of Contemporary Art, 1971
