Oil on canvas, frame not attached, measures: 255 x 167 cm. We find ourselves before a magnificent large-format representation of San Rafael de Córdoba, which tells that the Archangel San Rafael has been the Custodian of the city since a plague epidemic devastated Europe in the Middle Ages, significantly reducing the population. Córdoba entrusted itself completely to San Rafael and, like a miracle, the plague passed through the city with hardly any harm to its inhabitants. Who appeared four times to Father Roelas four times, revealing to him that he would save the city. The priest who at first thought they were hallucinations. But, in the early morning of May 7, 1578, there was a fifth apparition in which Saint Raphael told the priest that he was the angel Raphael, whom God had appointed as guardian of the city. Shortly after this appearance, there were no more deaths from the plague epidemic in Córdoba. Origin: important Murcian private collection.
