Oil on canvas, canvas measurements: 75 x 60 cm, frame measurements: 92 x 77 cm. Mariano Alonso Pérez y Villagrosa (Zaragoza, 1857-Madrid, 1930) was a Spanish painter. He began his artistic training at the Academy of Fine Arts of Zaragoza and continued them at the Special School of Painting, Sculpture and Engraving in Madrid. He later moved to Rome where he attended the Chigi and Cauva Academy and became familiar with the technique of watercolor. In 1889 he settled in Paris where his brother, the composer Luis Alonso, lived and produced different works set in the time of Louis XVI that were in great demand internationally and allowed him to live comfortably. From 1910 he became interested in painting with social themes and in 1914, coinciding with the beginning of the First World War, he decided to return to Spain to settle in Madrid,
