[The journalist and publisher A. V. Starchevsky (1818 - 1901) prepared and published in 1849 one of the first biographies of N. M. Karamzin. In the Preface, the author wrote: "There is no doubt that we will have historians who will shed light on ancient Russia, give a new look and color to facts, extract new philosophical conclusions, and give new pleasure to the mind, but only Karamzin, Karamzin alone, made the Russian heart beat when reading his story about the past fate of the Fatherland."]
