Orlov Sergey Mikhailovich (1911-1973) - sculptor and People's Artist of the RSFSR. Author of a number of compositions for Moscow metro stations, pavilions of VDNKh, Moscow University. He worked with easel and monumental sculpture, small plastic, created graphic and pictorial works. Orlov S.M.'s creativity is associated with Russian porcelain, folk ceramics, faience. For the sculptural compositions "Fairy Tale", "Alexander Nevsky", "Mother" Sergei Mikhailovich was awarded the State Prize of the USSR in 1946, and for the work "Ilya Muromets and the Nightingale the Robber" a silver medal at the World Exhibition in Brussels in 1958.
The Verbilki plant was founded in Russia in 1761 by F. Gardner, a native of England.
Gardner was a Scottish merchant. In 1746 he came to the Russian Empire. At the same time, for the convenience of doing business, he changed the name of Francis to Franz Yakovlevich, which is more familiar to Russians, but did not change his citizenship. Gardner received orders for products from the imperial court and for their uniqueness and the highest artistic value he had gratitude from the empress herself, and from the Moscow governor - the right to put a stamp in the form of the coat of arms of Moscow on the products.
After the revolutionary events of 1917, the Federal Law was nationalized, and it became known as the Dmitrov Federal Law. At first, the company paid attention to the production of tableware, and the manufacture of porcelain figurines was consigned to oblivion. And only since 1935, when the sculptor S.M. Orlov came to work at the plant, the enterprise revived the former glory of Gardner's production of porcelain figurines, which was distinguished by its closeness to the traditions of folk art. The fame of the amazing porcelain from "Verbilok" spread not only throughout the USSR, but also throughout Europe.
The sculpture "Verbilok" is distinguished by its nationality and plasticity. Among its representatives there are many fairy-tale figures, brightly and richly painted. Many products have received gold medals at exhibitions in European countries.
The fine porcelain sculpture of the famous "Verbilok" is today a very coveted antique object for many museums and for private collectors.
