Georg Weber (1808-1888) was a famous German historian. His most important and most fundamental work was the universal history, written in 1857-1880. It provided the latest accurate data on the history of human civilization from the earliest times to the XIX century inclusive. The book attempts to present a complete picture of the historical development of socio-economic relations and institutions, the history of human culture. In constructing the historical concept, the author and his editors relied on the latest achievements of natural Sciences, history and archaeology, linguistics, philosophy and sociology, which allowed us to draw a fairly objective picture of universal history. The work of G. Weber was translated into Russian from the second German edition, which was compiled with the participation of well-known specialists-historians. The work of G.
