Letter by Rabbi Moshe Pardo to the Rishon LeZion Rabbi Yaakov Shaul Elyashar, when he was then Rosh Av Beis Din of Jerusalem.

[2] pages, 21x13 cm. Sephardic script. Handwritten and signed by him

The  holy Gaon Rabbi Moshe Pardo (1810-1888), born in Jerusalem to his father Rabbi Refael David, descendant of Rabbi David Pardo and Rabbeinu the Chida. He learned out of poverty in the Yeshiva of 'Chessed LeAvraham VeBinyan Shlomo', together with his associates Rabbi Yaakov Shaul Elyashar, Rabbi Ephraim Navon, and Rabbi Eliyahu Mehudar. For many years he served as Dayan in the Beis Din of Rabbi Aharon Azriel and Rabbi Avraham Ashkenazi. In 1867, Rabbi Moshe Pardo was appointed Rosh Av Beis Din of the Sephardic community of Jerusalem. In 1870 he was sent to North Africa as Shadar of the Sephardic Kollelim. On his way back he was appointed Dayan and Rav of Alexandria. Passed away on 16th of Av 1888 and was buried in Alexandria. Authored the Seforim 'Tzeddek UMishpas', 'Hora'ah DeBeis Din', Shut 'Shemo Moshe', editings on the Sefer 'Chasdei David' and Hasagos on Sefer 'Em LaMikra'.

Content of the letter: Rabbi Moshe reports about ordering valuable and fine Tallis to the recipient of the letter, the 'Yissah Bracha' and for the Chief Rabbi [Rabbi Avraham Ashkenazi]. In response to the complaint of the Yissaa Bracha on the many titles referred to him, Rabbi Moshe apologizes and informs him what titles he will use when mentioning Rav Elyashar. He also writes about his difficulties in raising funds as a Shadar due to the difficult time. "וקיותי שבכפרים יהיה לי הצלחה רבה ולא מצאתי אפי' לשליש ולרביע וחומש משד"ר שקדמני". He finishes the letter in reference to the titles written to him and prayers to serve G-d wholesomely. "העיקר שה' יזכנו לעובדו באמת בלבב שלם, ואדע ערכי הפחות, כדי לעשות רצונו ית' שמו ולתקן נר"ן בעהי"ת שמו לחיים טובים ולשלום".
