Sefer Meshech Chochma on Chamisha Chumshei Torah, by Rabbi Meir Simcha Cohen of Dvinsk. Roga, Eli Leving Press, [1927]. First ediiton.

217 leaves, 25 cm.

Rabbeinu Meir Simcha ben Rabbi Shimchon Klonimus Hacohen (1843-1926) one of the leading rabbis of Europe before the Holocaust. For many years served as the Rav of the Misnagdim of Dvinsk (alongside the Rogatchov Gaon Rabbi Yosef Ruzin who served as the Rav of the Chassidim). Authored his famed Seforim Or Same'ach and Meshech Chochma on the Torah. In recent years, his responsa was published.

This Sefer, Meshech Chochma on the Torah, Rabbi Meir Simcha's first Sefer, was authored by him when he was a 17-year-old Iluy; his father (and some say his grandfather), however, instructed not to publish it so as not to give the impression that its author was a young Darshan not destined for greatness. Therefore, the Sefer was published only in 1927, approx. a year after the author's passing. The Sefer had widespread distribution and several editions of it were published. The author thought highly of his Sefer, saying: "I could have authored the Or Same'ach in my old age as well; but the Meshech Chocham I could have authored only in my youth".

Impressive leather binding in excellent condition with a matching case, wear and short tears and gluing to some leaves at the beginning of the volume and at its end, stains, fair-good condition.
