Was Rabbi Akiva Eiger a grandson of the Levush? Fascinating discovery from Rabbi Shlomo Sofer son of Rabbi Shimon Sofer Gab"d Krakow, dealing with manuscdripts of Rabbi Akiva Eiger and his lineage, Seret Romania, 1914.
New discovery about family lineage! Fascinating discovery in which the famous Gaon Rabbi Shlomo Alexandri Sofer publisher of sefarim of his grandfather the Chasam Sofer and the father of his grandfather the Gaon Rabbi Akiva Eiger, writes lengthily about the lineage of the head of the family the Holy Gaon Rabbi Akiva Eiger, the connections of the family, and supposing Rabbi Akiva Eiger is a offspring of to the Holy Levushim and up.

For years, extensive debate took place if Rabbi Akiva Eiger was the grandson of the Levushim, father to son and if at all.
In the sefer 'Milei D'Avot' that was published in Bardiov in the year 1925, writes as mentioned above. In doctrine journals in the last years, many genealogy researches debated and excluded this lineage. One of the prominent evidence revoking the family connection of Rabbi Akiva Eiger to the Halvushim was, that none of the descendants from his noble family wrote about this lineage, neither in their writings and in the historical letters of Rabbi Akiva Eiger which was written by his request.
In this letter, the grandson of Rabbi Akiva Eiger and whoever is generally knowledgeable in publishing his sefarim and seforim from his father–in-law Moron Chasam Sofer of Pressburg, writes and attributes the lineage being talked about, generation after generation, staring from their grandfather Rabbi Akiva Eiger til the Levushim, hand written in detail, but he conveys his strong reservation on this.
