Fascinating letter requesting help for his junior grandsons 'המושלמים בתורה ומחוננים ביראת השם' of the great scholar of the generation Rabbi Chaim Berlin eldest son of the Gaon Netzi"v of Valozhyn. Continuing in this letter written Chidushei Torah in the subject:
הפולמוס ההלכתי הנודע אם ספיקא דאורייתא מדאורייתא לחומרא או לקולא, מחלוקת הרמב"ם והרשב"א בעניין זה וראיות מדין 'לא תשחית את עצה' ויישוב להן.
This letter dated 8th of Elul 1904 is written flowery with a rich Torah language in a beautiful handwriting of HaGaon Rabbi Chaim Berlin, written in Bad Nauheim (Germany) a famous town of healing and rehabilitation. The letter was sent to close friend and famous philanthropist and scholar Rabbi Chaim Yaakov Sheftel of Kiev author of sefer 'Erech Milin'.
רבינו חיים מברלין, פותח באהבת תורה גלויה ותוכחה מוסתרת על אהבת תורתו וחשקו העז לקבל מאת ידידו מכתב בדברי תורה ומשם ממשיך בבקשתו עבור נכדיו בני בנו הרה"ג ר' משה יצחק ברלין שמגיעים לקייב ומבוקשת עבורת הכנסת אורחים ברוחניות ובגשמיות, מקום לתפילה וקירבת הגאון רבי חיים שעפטל.
49 lines on two pages, 22x28cm. Filing holes with nothing missing from the handwritten text. Torn in the margins with nothing missing. Very good condition.
הגאון הנודע והמפורסם רבי חיים ברלין [תקצ"ג-תרע"ג, 1832-1912] בנו הבכור של הנצי"ב מוואלוז'ין, נינו של רבי חיים מוואלוז'ין, רבן של הערים המעטירות וואלוז'ין, מוסקבה וירושלים, ראש ישיבת וולוז'ין למשך תקופה מסויימת ומגדולי הרבנים בדורו. כיהן גם בעיר קוברין וכן כיהן בעיר יעליסאוועטגראד והגלילות שבאוקראינה במשך עשור, ובה נכתב מכתבו זה.
