Boats in Jaffa Port,
Oil on canvas, 50x65 cm.
Signed.

The authenticity of the painting has been confirmed by Prof. Hemi Gutman, the artist’s son.

Literature & Exhibition: Nachum Gutman, Many Seas, Nachum Gutman Museum, 2001, p. 24 (illustrated).

This work, which was presented in Nachum Gutman's exhibition in 2001, does not reflect Gutman who defined the Eretzisraeli style of painting, but rather the modern Gutman who returned from Europe where he was influenced by Matisse and Cézanne, who develops formal decomposition and almost abstract assemblages at the same time as postmodernism that dominated Europe at the time. The sea is the object of Gutman's love and through the ships, Gutman expresses feelings of awakening, life and optimism in the early days of Israel.
