Includes 32 sculptures and a marble and bronze chess board. Maker: *Piero Benzoni. The game pieces are based on a German poem form the 13th Century ‘Ziegfreid in the Burgandy Court’. All of the pieces were hand made in bronze. Each is 24k gold plated and silver plated. Most of the pieces are marked. The board is made of 24k gilt bronze or silver plate. Decorated around the border with scenes from the poem. Sculpted with a mythological animal on each corner. The surface is made of two kinds of marble, mottled white and green. Piero Benzoni is and Italian sculpture that specialized in making exclusive chess sets. All of his sets are based on figures and themes which are faithful to a specific time in history and based on reproductions from Medieval times, the wars of Napoleon, the Roman Empire, the Renaissance, Samurai in Japan, Pharonic Egypt etc. Benzoni chess sets are sold on the website pianki.com and you can see an identical set there which sold for $ 18,719.
