Sefer Ohr Hachaim, by Rabbi Yosef Yaavetz, with comments by Rabbi Zvi Elimelech of Dinov.

Printed by Uri Zev Wolf Salat, Lemberg 1863.

Rabbi Yosef Yaavetz [1440-1508] was a Chassid and one of the great tzadikim of Spain during the Spanish Inquisition. He studied Torah under Don Yitzchak Abarbanel and was the brother-in-law of Rabbi Yitzchak Arama, the Baal Akeidas Yitzchak. Rabbi Yosef was a pillar of support for the Jews who were deported from Spain. After the deportation, he and his son wandered in many cities like Naples and Pirara, providing support, food, and spiritual and mental aid to the exiles. He believed that those Jews who held themselves to a simple faith were the ones who gave their lives for their beliefs, not necessarily those who based their faith on philosophical proofs.

Rabbi Zvi Elimelech of Dinov [1783-1841] was a close Talmid of many Chassidish luminaries such as the Chozeh of Lublin, Rabbi Mendel of Rimnov, the Ohev Yisroel of Apta and the Koznitz Magid. He was born on merit of the blessing of Rabbi Elimelech of Lizensk, who told his mother that he would light up the world with his Torah. It was actualized as his Torah illuminates all the generations that followed.
