Cave's Gentleman's Magazine - 1787 Volume with US Constitution (First Printing in Foreign Magazine)
This is the 1787 issue of The Gentleman's Magazine: or, Trader's monthly intelligencer which contains the first printing of the U.S. Constitution in a foreign magazine. This volume is titled in full: The Gentleman's Magazine, and Historical Chronicle, Vol. LVII for the Year M.DCCLXXXVII, Part the Second, [July through December 1787]. This is a first edition printing and is bound in contemporary brown cloth with a black titled label and gold gilt details. One original free end paper front and verso and has 2 fold outs with additional illustrations, 554-1200pp.

Edward Cave founded the magazine in London, England in 1731 and it ran monthly. The magazine was published until 1922. It was the first publication to actually use the term magazine for a periodical. Cave, under the pseudonym "Sylvanus Urban", created be a monthly digest of news and commentary intended for the educated public. It was the place of Samuel Johnson's first employment, and included writings from him, John Hawkesworth, Richard Savage, and Anna Seward.

The work is in excellent condition overall. There are small corner bends affecting the page nos. 1090-1096. There may be a few light marks to be expected with age. Please review the image carefully for condition and contact us with any questions.
